History: Butters was born on Cinnabar Island. Like many infants, however, Butters has no memory of this. As far as he is concerned, Pallet Town is his home. Not that he's had the best time of growing up there. With his overbearing and abusive parents controlling every part of his life, Butters has learned a fearful respect for those in authority. This, along with his general naivety has lead to Butters not making many close friends with kids his own age. (And those that he does consider friends usually take advantage of him or bully him.) Butters' general isolation (thanks to many, many, many groundings) has lead to him developing quite a few hobbies and a very active imagination. His need to obey his parents was so strong that he didn't raise even the slightest bit of protest when Stephen and Linda Stotch decided he was ready, at age 10, to start his own farm and/or a pokemon adventure. However, since his parents kept him so sheltered and stifled any attempts he made at breaking free from their regime, he doesn't really know what to do with his bunch'a dirt or his new Pokemon minion. Or this strange new thing called independence.
Personality: Good ol' Butters is pretty much a sweet, gullible kid. He's definitely one of the nicest people you'd ever meet! Unfortunately his gullibility and innocence often mean that he is very easily manipulated and, more often than not, is completely unaware of what some more "adult" actions mean. (see: Butters' Very Own Episode (s05e14), Sarcastaball (s16e08) for examples) Butters also has, thanks to dear ol' Mom and Dad, a severely low self esteem. He often chastises himself harshly for something that he has 'done wrong,' even if it was something that he had no control over (such as: having nightmares, having a stupid face, seeing what he thinks is the ghost of a dead friend.) This happens quite a lot, since Butters is an extremely unlucky kid. If something can go wrong for him, it usually will. It takes an awful lot to get Butters steamed, but gee whiz, watch out when he does get ticked off. Usually he expresses his anger via a scathing dressing-down (Going Native (s16e11) and The Tale of Scrotie McBoogerballs (s14e02)) or a sly attempt at minipulation. Surprisingly, in spite of (or maybe because of) his sweet demeanour, these attempts usually work out for him.
